  • Home renovation plumbing installation tips

There are three ways to install pipes.

During renovation, many homeowners ask whether the pipes should be installed on the ground or on the ceiling. As the cost varies, many homeowners do not know how to choose. Below, we will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of different methods.

There are generally three ways to install pipes: on the ceiling, on the ground, and on the wall. The comparison is as follows:

      Ground pipe installation:

Advantages: The pipeline installation is the easiest, requires the least amount of materials, and the length of the water pipe is the shortest. Therefore, if it is calculated by meter, it is the most cost-effective method.

Disadvantages: If there is a leak, it is not easy to detect, and the repair is the most troublesome and may cause significant losses (such as soaking the floor, damaging the cabinets and ceiling of the downstairs neighbor). Moreover, repairing it requires breaking open the ground.

      Wall pipe installation:

Advantages: Requires less materials, and if there is a leak, it is easy to repair and usually does not cause significant losses.

Disadvantages: The pipeline installation is slightly difficult, and the wall must be horizontally grooved. This has no effect on the water pipe, but it damages the wall. The horizontal grooving of the wall is also not allowed by national regulations.

      Ceiling pipe installation:

Advantages: If there is a leak, it is easy to repair, and the leak is easy to detect. It does not cause significant damage to the ground waterproofing.

Disadvantages: The pipeline installation is the most difficult and requires more materials. Therefore, the homeowner needs to pay more. If it is in the living room, there must be a circle of ceiling or gypsum lines to cover it.

After the above analysis, except for the horizontal grooving of the wall, both the ceiling and the ground have their own advantages. There is no clear requirement for which one to choose. Obviously, the ceiling is a more reliable choice, but the cost is relatively high. Although the cost of the ground is low, problems are not easy to detect. The specific choice also depends on the contractor's billing method.

There are generally two billing methods for contractors. One is to calculate the price based on the length, that is, the more you walk, the more you charge. The other is to calculate based on the square footage. If the contractor calculates based on the square footage, it is recommended that the homeowner and the contractor agree in advance to install on the ceiling, because the cost is the same, and it is obviously better to install on the ceiling. If calculated by length, it is recommended that the homeowner ask the contractor to provide an estimate for the water and electricity after the positioning, and require that the estimate and the final cost not fluctuate beyond a certain range, such as around 10%. This way, the homeowner can understand the approximate cost in advance. If the cost of installing on the ceiling is too high and unacceptable, installing on the ground can be considered.

Floor heating

  • The difference between pert pipe and pexb pipe

The difference between pert floor heating pipe and pexb pipe:
    1. Pert floor heating pipe is made of heat-resistant polyethylene, which is copolymerized with octene, butene, or hexene as the main material, and is a thermoplastic.
The pexb floor heating pipe adopts an innovative second-generation silane cross-linking process and is produced using an advanced two-step process. After cross-linking treatment, it has a unique and stable three-dimensional network molecular structure and is a thermosetting plastic.
    2. Pert floor heating pipe has no bending memory, good low temperature brittle resistance, but not high temperature resistance.
Pexb floor heating pipe has good low temperature toughness, high temperature resistance and good stress crack resistance.
    3. The pert floor heating pipe is a thermoplastic, which can be connected by hot-melt connection. If accidentally damaged, it can also be repaired by hot-melt connection of pipe fittings. It is better than PEX pipe in connection method. The construction is also more convenient, and the production process has fewer links. The product has good homogeneity, so the quality is stable and reliable, and it is used more in China.
As a thermosetting plastic, pexb floor heating pipes cannot be connected by hot melt. The connection requirements are relatively high, and the requirements for the construction party are quite strict. At present, domestic technology is still lacking, and it is mainly popular abroad.
    4. Pert can be recycled and does not pollute the environment. But pexb cannot be recycled, which will cause secondary pollution.

Drain

  • What problems should be paid attention to in the decoration of a new house

If we frequently smell unpleasant odours in the bathroom, toilet, or kitchen, it is definitely due to poor design of the floor drain, allowing the odours to come up. Therefore, the issue of the floor drain cannot be ignored. When renovating, special attention should be paid to the elevation of the top of the floor drain, which should be 5-10mm lower than the ground. This setting is to prevent harmful gases from the sewer pipes from polluting the indoor environment after the water seal is damaged. As long as this requirement is met, most of the odours can be contained. During renovation, some renovation companies may use low-priced products. The water seal of these products may be less than 3cm. Due to design issues, the positive and negative pressure of the water seal will be disrupted, causing odours to emanate.

Noise problems in pipes: a. Water supply pipe noise: Due to the flow of water, noise is generated from the vibration of the pipes. For example, when we turn on the tap, there may be a whistling sound. The solution to this problem is to appropriately increase the pipe diameter, use flexible rubber joints, add rubber pads at the pipe support contact points, and install pressure reducing valves. b. Drainage pipe noise: Common noise issues in drainage pipes come from wastewater discharge. The most common noise we hear is from the wastewater discharge upstairs, caused by the collision of pipes. In this case, it is recommended to wrap it with soundproof cotton and then tile it with ceramic tiles. Of course, you can also replace the original pipes with higher-priced soundproof pipes.
